Winds of Sorrow est l'une des multiples facettes de l'artiste néo-zélandais Mort et aussi l'une des plus brèves puisque seul Through Twilight... naîtra sous ce patronyme. Mort part d'un bon concept, à savoir créer un doom metal/dungeon avec une emphase sur ce dernier, mais voit trop grand en visant le format de l'album alors qu'une démo était suffisante. Les atmosphères gothiques et parfois folkloriques sont envoûtantes mais couvrent trop une voix qu'on finit par oublier. Un album sympathique.

L'horizon est paradoxal, à la fois porte d'entrée vers l'infini mais aussi un mur qui bloque notre regard. Ekove Efrits le transcende dans son troisième album Conceptual Horizon, il le met à la merci de son imagination. Hypermnesia a été un tournant pour le one-man band iranien qui fait de cette nouvelle création un théâtre du monde au nombre d'acteurs et de décors quasiment illimité. C'est un des albums de black metal dépressif les plus éclectiques que je connaisse : un grand coup de maître !

Faire passer le black par un équipement daté pour rendre le son brut de décoffrage, j'ai longtemps pensé que c'était Staurophagia le maître en la matière mais Obsidian Tongue l'a fait avant lui et tout aussi bien dans son premier opus, Volume I: Subradiant Architecture. On se retrouve ainsi avec un black metal qui rend hommage à l'école norvégienne, entre poésie ésotérique ("Approaching the Well", "It Dangles from the Bones") et guitares furieuses, mais il est aussi très moderne. Un bon album !
